Maternal Child Home Health Care
Our maternal child health nurses offer coping strategies to reduce stress and adjust to the transition of motherhood. During pregnancy our nurses provide support for expectant parents that includes prenatal education and in-home monitoring of high-risk pregnancies. Most private insurance plans will pay for pre-approved services. Ask your hospital nurse to refer you to VNA Community Healthcare. Check with our Intake Department at 203.458.4275 for more information.
When the baby arrives, we visit infants at home, helping new moms feel more confident bathing, breastfeeding, and caring for their babies. Many mothers call us after their babies are born premature or have risk factors. We also work with mothers who have delivered twins or triplets.
An experienced voice to answer your questions. We weigh, measure and monitor newborns and answer your questions about what to expect as they grow. Our maternal child health nurses have experience working in hospitals’ maternity wards and nurseries. Many are certified lactation consultants who help mothers and babies with breastfeeding.
Providing education and guidance. Most insurance companies will pay for two well-child visits in the home. We’ll discuss the types of formula that are best for your baby and review breastfeeding techniques. If you are recovering from a C-section, we’ll also make sure that your wound is healing properly.
Child Health Nursing. Our child health nurses visit children in their homes for a range of chronic and acute illnesses, from cancer to broken bones to head lice. Many of our nurses have been caring for children for many years, and establish close relationships with the families.
Connecting with your doctor. Our maternal child health nurses are in regular contact with your child’s doctor. By providing services in the comfortable environment of your home, we reduce the need to bring your child to the doctor’s office or the hospital. We often become your child’s advocate at school and in the community, locating services and resources that will promote health and independence.
Customized child care when a nurse is not needed. VNA Community Healthcare's private care agency, LIFETIME Care at Home, offers child care tailored to the needs of you and your child.
